VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The driver of a car plowed into a group of people at a street festival in Canada, killing an unknown number of them and injuring others, the police said.
The vehicle entered the street where people were attending a Filipino community festival shortly after 8 p.m. local time, the Vancouver Police Department said in a social media post.
“Several are dead; multiple others are injured after a driver plowed into a crowd,” the police said.
It was not immediately clear how many people were killed or injured.
The driver was arrested, the police said.
The festival, called Lapu Lapu Day, was hosted in a South Vancouver neighbourhood. Video on social media showed victims and debris spread out along a long section of road, while at least seven people lay still on the ground.
A black S.U.V. with a crumpled front end was visible in still pictures from the scene.
